Yarway Gun-PaktŪ Expansion Joints

Yarway joints are made in single end and double end types. Double end joints are frequently installed in place of two single end joints to reduce the number of pipe joints, or to meet local space conditions.

On flanged end joints, end flanges are welded to sleeve and body in the single end type, and to both sliding sleeves in the double end type. Flange dimensions and drilling are according to ANSI B16.5 Steel Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings. Welding end joints have buttwelding connections for steel pipe lines.

Fabricated steel anchor bases may be welded to the joint in any position specified. All double end joints have anchor bases, but single end joints are available with or without bases. Service outlets for branch lines, with flanged, welding or threaded connections, can be proviced at nominal extra cost and in all sizes up to nominal size of joint.

Steam lines should be drained of condensate at low points to prevent damage due to water hammer, corrosion, sagging, etc. When used, drains should be connected to a suitable strainer and steam trap; when not used, the drain must be plugged.

Yarway joints are available in sizes from 1-1/2 " to 24". They are standard for 150 psi and 300 psi service, but are also available for 400 psi service. The flanges are drilled per B16.5 Class 150 (150 psi service) or Class 300 (300 psi service). Note the rating for the expansion joint is a maximum allowable pressure rating and not an ANSI Class. For example, a 300 psi expansion joint can be used only in a service where the maximum fluid pressure is 300 psig (at all temperatures). Maximum fluid temperature is 500 F for all packings.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • One Piece Construction - Combines strength with minimum overall dimensions.
  • Convenient Packing Guns - Injected directly into the packing space; prevent back flow of packing due to internal pressure.
  • Low Cost Maintenance - New long life Teflon graphite packing requires minimum maintenance.
  • Lubrication Free Glands - No field lubrication required.
  • Continuous Service - Increased packing gland volume (up to 50% more than comparable joints) plus unique gland design allows packing to be added under full line pressure and reduces the tendency for packing to dry out.
  • Misalignment Protection - Up to 96% more internal and external guiding area than comparable joints. Provides maximum pipe misalignment protection with minimum resultant packing leaks.
  • Ample Sleeve Traverse - Choice of 4", 8" or 12" traverse for each sleeve provides for expansion and contraction. Double-end joints have the same amount of traverse at each end or a combined traverse of 8", 16" or 24".
  • Dependability - All steel construction with durable, chromium plated, seamless steel sleeves. Fabricated steel bases provide rugged, positive anchorage.
